Don’t Swipe If You Don’t Want to Meet Them
And other dating lessons I learned from a girl gang that I didn’t belong to.
In between professional getting to know you questions with a prospect for my work, I asked if the woman I spoke to lived in Paris. She said yes, and then she asked me the same thing. “I’m in Montpellier.”
Typically, after that exchange, I move on to my following questions. She did not. She ruined it by saying, “I know this is going to sound weird, but I’m going to be in Montpellier for a baby shower this weekend. Do you want to meet for drinks?”
Hopeful of discouraging her, I said, “Absolutely, but I don’t drink. Does that make you uncomfortable?”
She shut me down, “No, of course not. As long as you don’t mind that I do drink.”
They also told me the story of how the three non-French women wooed and courted the 3 French women into a lifelong friendship.
And so my obligation was set, and I spent the next four days battling how much I hate having to meet new people and how much I hate not knowing anyone, so I have to meet new people.
The reality of this rendezvous was incredible. I was given witnessing privilege of a girl gang that was not mine. For some — probably…
