It’s All Uphill From Here

Finding abundance in lack to change the quality of your life. It works. Trust me.

It’s effortless to get wrapped up in the bitchfest. One thing leads to another leads to another, and soon all you see are the things you don’t have.

  • My partner broke up with me.
  • I lost my job.
  • I have no money.
  • My best friend won’t speak to me.
  • My dad died.
  • I’m alone.

I can’t have something I want. That’s what it boils down to. Even for the quite tragic experiences in life. If you’re experiencing this right now, me too, and I’m sorry.

It’s devastating to want something you can’t have of that magnitude. It’s crushing when you have blow after blow of having things and people ripped away from you.

Can’t you get a break? What the actual fuck is going on, is this real life? It is. And, as bizarre as it sounds, saying thank you for it helps.

I actually wrote this essay in 2019 and never published it. I found it in my drafts two years later and realized that my advice was still applicable even though my heartbreak and circumstances had changed drastically.
