Like A Virgin, Sober for the Very First Time

Alcohol has been a contributing member of my entire adult life. So much so that it was even my profession. I worked at a brewery and before that I created something over 250 beverage menus and programs, all of which involved research, trial and tasting. It was an arduous and drunk task to say the least.

If I wasn’t working, which was rare, I was living. All of my memories have alcohol paired with them.

Champagne toasts for New Years

Beer and fireworks for the Fourth of July

Red wine on the couch after a long day

White wine on the floor making vision boards

Bourbon cocktails at the swanky new place in Atlanta

Anise liqueur and a night of being drug by my hair and beaten to tears.

Tequila and screaming for a family holiday.

Vodka soda and being told he only proposed to me because I wanted it.

Gin tonic and being told my wedding is cancelled.

Water and discovery I’ve been living with a closeted alcohol.
